Whitianga is on the eastern side of the Coromandel Peninsula approximately 208 km from Auckland. There you will find a beautiful seaside town with long safe swimming beaches and waterways. It is situated on the coast of Mercury Bay along the 5km long Buffalo Beach. Buffalo Beach is named after the HMS Buffalo, which was wrecked during a storm in 1840 while anchored in Mercury Bay. Her anchor can be seen at a monument at Buffalo Beach.
A 45 minute drive or the passenger ferry crossing from Whitianga to Ferry Landing, gives you easy access to popular attractions such as Cooks Beach and Hot Water Beach.
